A 34-year-old father has been arrested by Ondo State Police Command agents for allegedly killing his 14-year-old son Tope over theft.
In their house in Ajowa-Akoko, Akoko North West Local Government Area of the state, the suspect, Monday Elela, a father of seven, is accused of burying his kid in a shallow grave.
Elela, a farmer and bricklayer, allegedly committed the act in order to permanently end the shame that their deceased son had been causing the family, working in collusion with his wife, who is currently on the run.
The suspect, who was paraded with other accused offenders at the Nigerian Police state headquarters in Akure, the state capital, claimed that he just beat his son after he fled from the Amotekun Corps’ custody and did not kill him.
Out of my seven kids, Tope has been the one to cause us trouble and shame the family. He consistently breaks into homes. He is well-known in the neighborhood where we reside and has been repeatedly detained by Amotekun and the police, but he refuses to change.
The last time he was arrested, he broke out of the cell when he was under the Amotekun corps’ custody. To get out, he leaped the fence and smashed the iron bars.
the father added saying;
“We just used our hands to spank him for his misdeeds and the embarrassment he had been causing us after he had gotten away. However, we were unaware that he had previously sustained injuries when interacting with the Amotekun people.
He ate his meal, had a bath, and then fell asleep after we spanked him. We told his younger brother to wake him up at dawn so that we could all head to the farm. We discovered that he had passed away when he failed to reply.
Together with his mother, I hurried to where he was resting and we were able to ascertain that he had already passed away. We buried his body in our backyard as a result. He wasn’t killed by us. He ranks third among my children.”
